Congregation Emeth depends on annual fundraising to supplement income from member pledges and other donations. Fresh ideas are always welcome.
Wine Tasting - We have had a variety of wine tasting events at several winery venues over the years. We encourage members to invite friends, family, and other wine-loving acquaintances. Typically, several items are also donated and additional funds are raised from a silent and/or live auction. Our wine tasting events are always enjoyable social events for congregants in addition to serving as successful fundraisers for Emeth.
Gilroy Garlic Festival Photography Booth - For the past 10 years, Congregation Emeth has offered the only photography booth at the Gilroy Garlic Festival each July. We provide a garlic-themed backdrop and a variety of hats and garlic props for our customers, many of whom return annually for a new festival portrait. Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks, including taking photographs, staging customers, collecting payments, and printing and processing orders. Our booth is extremely busy, successful, and a lot of fun.
Mah Jongg Tournament - For the past few years several Emeth women, with the help of Sisterhood, have organized a local day-long Mah Jongg tournament. Proceeds go to an Emeth activity or charity of their choice.
We are also receptive to other, smaller fundraising ideas as opportunities present themselves. Examples of past fundraisers include an art auction, deli sandwich sales, a concert, cook-offs, and a garage sale. In 2013 and again
in 2015, we collaborated with South Valley Civic Theatre, our local community theater, selling out special afternoons of Jewish food and culture in combination with performances by SVCT of Fiddler on the Roof (2013) and The Producers (2015).
Fundraisers that include cultural components seem to be successful in drawing in the community at large; a future event might, for example, be structured around Jewish dancing or cooking.
